4c: Communicating with Families
"The teacher’s responsibility to provide opportunities for parents/guardians to participate in the education of their student."
Artifact #1 2013-2014: Library Page in School Newsletter
As a sponsor and coach for the Spelling Bee each year I submit a page to the school newsletter congratulating the school winners. By doing this I am also informing the school community of HMS' spelling bee program.
Artifact #1 2014-15: BCPSOne Messages with Parents
This school year I co-taught a Tech Ed class for 6th graders. As a classroom teacher communicating with students and parents is essential. BCPSOne made that process much easier as is seen by my email log above.
Artifact #2: Teacher/Library Website
Julee Williams and I maintain, update, and promote the school library media center's website to provide teachers and students with resources they can use to be successful in class and to encourage literacy and information literacy.
Artifact #1 2015-16: HMS Library Twitter Account
The HMS Library Twitter account is the newest way that I am promoting what is going on in the library with parents, the greater HMS community, and with the entire BCPS community.
Artifact #2: Email
Directly emailing parents is still the best and most efficient way of contact.
Artifact #1 2016-17: Library Page in School Newsletter
Throughout the school year I submit a page to the HMS School Newsletter in an effort to keep the entire Hereford MS community informed.
Artifact #2 2016-17: Online Book Fair Volunteer Scheduler
This year Scholastic provided a platform that allowed me to email volunteers and they could sign up for the hours they wished to work the fair. As this was the first year the site was pretty glitchy but it did provide an easy way for me to contact volunteers and for them to contact me.
