4a: Reflecting on Teaching
"A teacher’s thinking after any instructional event; planning, implementation, assessment, and follow-up."
Artifact #1 2013-14: Teacher Development Plan
I wrote the Library Media Professional Development Plan two years ago in order to provide focus and to set goals for the HMS library program. I consistently refer to them and try new ways to strive toward achieving each goal. One of my top goals in to get students to read thus increasing circulation. I try and do this by maintaining a collection that is student centered.
Artifact #1 2014-15: Accuracy and Use in Future Teaching
Each year I conduct a library orientation and at the end of each orientation run I assess the lesson to determine its overall effectiveness of the lesson. I use this information in order to improve the orientation lesson for the following year with the goal of making it more interesting and student centered. The artifact I am including is the most recent orientation packet I give to the students.
Artifact #1 2015-16: Accuracy and Use in Future Teaching
This year I participated in a pilot and used the process of Evidence Based Practice (EBP) for a series of research lessons I was conducting with two teachers. The students used the #HZONE close reading strategy as they read informational text. By folllowing the procedures outlined in the EBP I was able to determine if #HZONE was helping students comprehend the informational texts they were reading. The results can be found here http://ebpthomaslms.pbworks.com.
Artifact #1 2016-2017: Accuracy & Use in Future Teaching
This year every LMS participated in an in-depth workshop on planning lessons and writing objectives. My first thoughts were that this was sills as I had been teaching for 20 years but as we continued to explore and examine this topic I was amazed by my and my cohorts struggles. This workshop has definitely helped me to focus and really think about the lessons I write and create.

Micro Credential Application for Future Ready Librarians

This year I was encouraged by Fran Glick to apply for the Future Ready Librarian micro credential "Students as Creators". Part of the application process was to analyze a lesson that allowed students to be creators which prompted me to really sit and focus on what that meant and how what i do allows students to create new knowledge. The application was a lot of work and time consuming but forced me to think about my teaching and library program in a deeper more analytical manner than I have previously done.
